The country plans to step up efforts against COVID after more than 500 cases were recorded in a single day, the highest since March
Nigeria’s Health Minister Osagie Ehanire has disclosed that the country is set to take delivery of 29 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine in August as infections continue to rise.
There have been more than 170,000 cases recorded since the start of the pandemic and a third wave has seen daily infections rise astronomically.
According to the last report released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), 535 cases were reported on Wednesday, the highest in more than 4 months.
The government announced that it was going to receive 70 million doses of the Johnson and Johnson COVID 19 vaccine in March and this will be the first batch of the anticipated vaccine.

Ehanire stated that offering a single dose of the vaccine will be beneficial to the nation due to the high population density and poor record keeping.
The health minister also disclosed that Nigeria is set to 4 million doses of the Moderna vaccine and 700,000 doses of the AstraZeneca.
An unspecified quantity of the Pfizer vaccine is also expected in the third quarter of the year, according to Ehanire.
At the moment, 2 million people have received one dose of the COVID 19 vaccine in Nigeria while 700,000 have received double jabs.
