Nigeria is set to meet the benchmark set by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to commence manufacturing vaccines in the country.

The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof Mojisola Adeyeye disclosed that 90% of the requirements have been met already.
During an interview with Channels TV on Sunday, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye disclosed that the goal is to ensure that African countries are capable of manufacturing vaccines.

The NAFDAC boss revealed there are 240 requirements in the WHO Global benchmark and 210 had been achieved a week ago.
Prof Adeyeye revealed that Nigeria has already sent a progress report to WHO but the benchmarks will need to be met before the country can begin vaccine manufacturing.
The NAFDAC boss’s statement is in line with that of the Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Health Dr Olorunnimbe Mamora who disclosed that Nigeria was working towards manufacturing its own COVID 19 vaccines.

The minister revealed that difficulty in purchasing the vaccine from other countries had pushed Nigeria towards fending for itself by manufacturing its own COVID vaccines.
