Nigeria is working on developing its own COVID 19 vaccine, President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed during a recent televised interview.
The country’s leader has made this claim amid the growing cases of the virus in the country.
Health experts have predicted that Nigeria needs to step up its vaccination drive from just over 100,000 to meet up with its target of vaccinating half its population by the end of 2023.
So far, the country has been exploring vaccine acquisition through the COVAX facility to enable it inoculation of 70% of its population.
The country has however experienced challenges in the form of receiving vaccines close to expiration.
Nigeria had to destroy more than 1 million expired vaccines last month after receiving donations with only a few weeks’ shelf life.
