Nigeria Begins 2nd Phase COVID 19 Vaccination Today

  • The federal government is set to begin phase two of COVID 19 vaccination today after receiving 4 million doses of Moderna vaccine and 177,600 doses of Janssen vaccine
  • COVID 19 vaccination was earlier scheduled to begin on August 10 but it was postponed by the government to provide NAFDAC with more time for testing of the vaccines
  • NAFDAC has confirmed the vaccines to be safe as the country continues its battle against the COVID 19 third wave

The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) will commence phase 2 of COVID 19 Vaccination today.

The agency will be administering 4 million doses of the Moderna vaccine and 177,600 doses of the Janssen vaccine as the country battles the third wave of the pandemic.

It will be recalled that vaccination was initially scheduled to begin on August 10 but it was postponed by the federal government to August 16.

FG said the additional time was required for the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control to confirm the vaccines to be safe.

Although the Moderna vaccines are double dose vaccines like AstraZeneca received earlier this year, the Janssen vaccines are taken in single shots.
