Cluster Lead West Africa for Pfizer, Mr. Olayinka Subair has shut down claims about the possibility of vaccine production in Nigeria.
The Pfizer boss believes that Nigeria does not have the technical capacity to produce a COVID 19 vaccine.
According to The Punch, Subair made this statement during a visit to their headquarters in Ogun State on Thursday.
Subair who doubles as Pfizer’s Country Manager in Nigeria described vaccine production as a technical and expensive process.
According to the Pfizer boss, Nigeria is capable of producing vaccines for conventional diseases like polio and measles but there are question marks about the country’s ability to manufacture a COVID vaccine.
He out the cost of research and production of a COVID 19 vaccine at over $3bn, which Nigeria may not be able to afford.

So far, Nigeria and other African countries have received the majority of their COVID 19 vaccines through the COVAX initiative from countries like the United States and France.
