Nigeria To Get 70M Johnson and Johnson COVID Vaccine – NPHCDA

-The Nigerian government is planning to get 70 million doses of the Johnson and Johnson COVID vaccine

-The African Union recently completed a deal with the company to acquire 400 million vaccine doses

-Some of the AstraZeneca vaccines scheduled to come to Nigeria maybe be replaced with Johnson and Johnson shots

The Nigerian government has announced its plan to acquire 70 million doses of the Johnson and Johnson COVID vaccine.

The news was passed by NPHCDA boss, Dr. Faisal Shuaib, during an interview with Reuters.

Dr. Shuaib announced that Nigeria may receive an initial 30 million doses of the J&J vaccines in July.

African Union recently struck a deal to acquire 400 million doses of the J&J vaccine and Nigeria plans to receive some.

If Nigeria can successfully acquire the vaccine shots, they will be used to replace the AstraZeneca vaccine that the country is set to receive.

The Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine which was developed in the Netherlands is said to be 74% effective against asymptomatic infection.

Nigeria is currently using the AstraZeneca vaccine after the country received 3.92 million doses in March.

The shots have been distributed to various states and are already being administered.
