COVID 19 Relief: Lagos Govt to Distribute Money to 20,000 Families

Mrs Oluwakemi Adedeji, the Coordinator of the Lagos State Operations Coordinating Unit (LACOSU) of the National Social Safety Nets Register (NSR), stated that about 20,000 poor households living across seven Local Government Areas in Lagos state will enjoy the COVID-19 Rapid Response Register (RRR) Cash Transfer.

According to a statement released yesterday, Mrs Adedeji stated that all the beneficiaries will get paid through their bank accounts for six months.

The RRR is a Federal Government Social Intervention Programme through the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development partnering with the World Bank.

She stated that the beneficiaries were selected based on existing data collected in some of the local governments in the state.

The data of the poor households have been gathered through the global standard of poverty index and availability of resources.

The beneficiaries of the COVID 19 relief funds are from Abomiti ward in Epe Local Government, Ikoga and Iya Afin wards in Bardagry Local Government, Abomiti ward in Epe Local Government and Ijede ward 1 in Ikorodu Local Government.

She further said that the disbursements to these beneficiaries in the seven wards are following pilot disbursements that were done in two wards (Ijede II and Agura/Iponmi in Ikorodu Local Government) making it nine wards in five local government that will benefit from the programme. The beneficiaries on the pilot scheme are already getting N5,000 monthly.

She said that the process is continuous, and qualified households from the stated Local Government Areas will begin to get SMS (short message services) for the registration into the COVID 19 relief programme.

Mrs Adedeji urged applicants to quickly respond to the SMS immediately they get it and enumerators will meet them at their homes for identification and documentation.
