The the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has dis loses that Nigeria has recorded its first case of COVID Delta Variant which is also known as lineage B.1.617.2.
The health agency reported this after the variant was detected in a a traveller during a routine test which was made compulsory for all international travelers.
The was was passed on Thursday afternoon by the Head of Communications NCDC, Dr Yahya Disu and it can also be seen on the NCDC website.
The NCDC urged Nigerians to maintain COVID protocols and adhere to social measures to prevent the spread of the virus in the country.
Nigerians have also been urged to receive the COVID-19 vaccine after the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) confirmed the safety of the vaccine.

What you should know about the COVID Delta variant
The Delta variant also known as the B.1.617 is an highly transmissible strain of the COVID-19 virus.
The variant was first discovered in India in 2020 before it spread to other countries, becoming more dominant in the UK and United States.
