COVID 19: Nigeria Bans Brazil and South Africa, Removes India Restriction

  • The federal government has lifted a restriction that was placed on flights coming into the country from India
  • The Chairman, Presidential Steering Committee on COVID 19, Boss Mustapha disclosed this on Sunday in an update to the travel protocol
  • Meanwhile, Non-Nigerian passport holders and non-residents who visited Brazil, Turkey, or South Africa within 14 days are still restricted

The Federal government ha San lifted the travel ban that was placed on flights from India earlier this year.

The Chairman, Presidential Steering Committee on COVID 19, Boss Mustapha conveyed this message in the new travel protocol.

However, the ban on passengers who visited Brazil, South Africa, and Turkey will remain as a precaution, the PSC boss revealed. This will also extend to non-Nigerian passport holders.

“Non-Nigerian passport holders and non-residents who visited Brazil, Turkey, or South Africa within 14 days preceding travel to Nigeria, shall be denied entry into Nigeria. This regulation, however, does not apply to passengers who transited through these countries.”

Boss Mustapha warned that airlines that fail to comply with the new instruction will pay a fine of $3500 for defaulting passengers.

In addition to this, non-Nigerians will be denied entry and returned to the previous country at a cost to the airline.

Meanwhile, Nigerians who visited any of the three prohibited countries in the last 14 days, will have to quarantine for 7 days in a government-approved facility upon entry.

In addition to this, all passengers that want to depart the country must have performed a COVID 19 PCR test at most 72 hours before boarding.

The PSC chairman stated that airlines have been warned not to board passengers with positive COVID 19 results or those with results from over 72 hours ago.
