Nigeria recorded 674 new COVID 19 infections on August 19, according to the latest update from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The most recent recorded infection is much lower than the 1,149 cases reported on Thursday.
The health agency also reported that 8 people died from the highly infectious virus, bringing the country’s death toll to 2,244.
Since the start of the pandemic, 185 267 cases have been recorded and the number keeps increasing as the country manages the 3rd wave of the pandemic.
According to the NCDC, the latest infections were recorded in 16 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Lagos State remains the epicentre of the virus, accounting for more than half of the total recorded cases, 355.

Rivers State has 87 infections, FCT (38), Ogun (33), Akwa Ibom (32), Oyo (32), while Edo State recorded 22 new cases.
Ekiti (20), Kwara (17), Delta (12), Bayelsa (8), Gombe (5), while Osun and Kaduna had 4 new cases each.
The list is completed by Enugu and Nasarawa which had 2 cases each and Plateau with 1.
Three states (Abia, Kano and Ondo) did not record any new cases despite testing.
At the moment, Nigeria has 15,100, while 167,923 have recovered since the start of the pandemic last year.

The country has test positivity of six per cent after testing 2.6 million samples from the entire population.
