Nigeria’s Federal government has imposed new COVID 19 guidelines to airlines in a bid to limit the entry of infected patients.
The head of the Presidential Steering Committee, Boss Mustapha in a statement on Wednesday announced that incoming travellers will need to submit a COVID 19 test done almost 72 hours before boarding.
The Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test which is required by the country detects fragments of the virus even in people who are no longer infected.
According to Mr Boss Mustapha, any PCR test that is done more than 3 days before boarding will not be accepted.
The PCR test must be within 72 hours of boarding from the first country of departure.
He stated;
”Passengers must perform a COVID-19 PCR test not more than three days (72 hours) before boarding. PCR test done more than 72 hours before departure is not valid, and a person will not be allowed to board.
The PSC chairman also warned that passengers that fail to adhere to this rule will be deported on arrival to Nigeria.

Also, Nigerian officials announced on Monday that a restriction has been placed on travellers from South Africa.
This restriction was imposed due to the spread of the Delta variant in South Africa.
The African country joins India, Brazil and Turkey on the list of countries that have been banned from entry into Nigeria.
