No fewer than 107 passengers traveling into the country have tested positive for coronavirus in the past week.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control disclosed this on its website on Wednesday, along with the daily recorded cases of the virus in the country.
According to the NCDC’s Facebook page, 1424 new COVID 19 cases were reported on Wednesday, the country’s highest since the emergence of the Omicron variant.
As of Thursday, December 16th, Nigeria had recorded 220,020 total cases of coronavirus across the 36 States and FCT.
The NCDC also disclosed that five additional cases of the Omicron variant had been detected, bringing the total to 11 in Nigeria.

This is coming about 2 weeks after Nigeria recorded its first Omicron variant cases from a passenger with recent travel history to South Africa.
Omicron is a newly discovered strain of the coronavirus disease that was first reported by the South African government in November.
