A pill developed by vaccine manufacturing company Pfizer has been proven to be effective against severe symptoms of COVID 19, the company as revealed.
The experimental pill named Paxlovid was also reported to be effective against the rapidly spreading Omciron variant, according to laboratory testing done by Pfizer.
During the clinical trials, Paxlovid showed almost 90% efficacy against COVID 19 by preventing hospitalization and death in high-risk patients.
This success has warranted Pfizer to seek authorization from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the pill to be made available for combating coronavirus.
This comes a month after the United Kingdom approved the use of another COVID 19 pill, Molnupiravir that was manufactured by Merck/Ridgeback.
