Africa’s COVID 19 Cases Exceeds 9.15 Million as South Africa Leads

  • Africa’s number of confirmed COVID 19 cases has reached 9,155,69, according to The Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC)
  • The continent has recorded a death toll of 225,967 so far, with 8,329,481 people recovering from the disease
  • South Africa has recorded the most cases so far, with 3,292,609 people testing positive for the virus so far

The Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has disclosed that Africa’s confirmed COVID 19 cases has reached 9,155,69.

The Africa Union health care agency also disclosed that the continent’s death toll currently stands at 225,967 while 8,329,481 patients have recovered from the disease so far.

South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, and Ethiopia lead the continent among countries with the highest cases recorded.

South Africa has recorded the most cases so far with 3,292,609, while Morocco follows with 952,628 cases as of late Sunday.

COVID 19

Despite being the continent’s leading in terms of population, Nigeria has recorded only a fraction with 223,483 confirmed cases of COVID 19.

211,522 have been discharged in the west-African country while 2,984 have died of the deadly disease.

With the emergence of the new highly transmissible Omicron variant, countries have been forced to stay on their toes.

Many countries have imposed travel restrictions and other forms of safety measures to limit the spread of the virus.
