Former Brazilian football star, Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima has bought the majority stake in his boyhood club Cruzeiro.

The deal was confirmed in a statement that was released by the club on Monday.
Cruzeiro revealed that the acquisition was made by Ronaldo on Saturday through Tara Sports for investments of R$ 400 million ($70 million).
A portion of the statement can be read below:
‘Cruzeiro Esporte Clube, a centuries-old institution in world football, signed an agreement with Ronaldo this Saturday, through Tara Sports, for investments of R$ 400 million ($70 million), over the next few years, in its Sociedade Anônima of Football (SAF).’
The Brazilian club and four-time winners of the South American league suffered relegation to the second tier in 2019 and have since struggled for promotion.
Goal also reports that the club holds a debt of around R$1billion (£133m/$176m). This has resulted in a player registration ban from FIFA due to their failure to fulfill transfer payments to two clubs.
