4 People Die From COVID 19 as Vaccination Starts

  • The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has reported the death of 4 people from COVID 19 complications in the previous day
  • A total of 584 new infection cases were recorded in various states across the country, with Lagos, Rivers and Abuja leading the way
  • Meanwhile, health officials have urged Nigerians to visit vaccination centres to get a shot of the COVID jab as vaccination kickstarts

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported 584 new COVID 19 cases as the country continues its battle against the third wave of the pandemic.

The latest infection update has brought the total number of cases in Nigeria to 183,087 with 15,777 still active.

The 587 cases were recorded across 15 states of the federation but 4 states (Lagos, Rivers, FCT, and Ondo) accounted for more than 86%.

Lagos led the way with 201 new cases as Rivers followed with 149 new daily infections.

The Federal Capital Territory had 82 new infections, Ondo (73), Ekiti (17), while Cross River recorded 13 new cases.

Other states with infections are Oyo (11), Ogun (9), Delta(8), Osun(8), Bayelsa (4), and Kaduna (4).

The list is completed by Kano and Kwara with two new cases respectively and Sokoto on 1.

Three states (Nasarawa, Plateau, and Kano) recorded no new cases despite testing.

A total of 183,087 COVID 19 cases have been confirmed in the country while 167,310 have been discharged.

Meanwhile, Nigeria has kickstarted the second phase of COVID vaccination on Monday.

The country will use 4 million doses of double dose Moderna and 177,600 doses of the Janssen vaccine for the process.
