The rumours began after celebrity news outlet, Hollywood Unlocked, and its founder, Jason Lee claimed that the 95-year-old queen had been found dead
A rumour emerged on Tuesday night claiming that Queen Elizabeth II had passed away. This generated a lot of buzz on social media after it was reported that the queen has tested positive to COVID 19 2 days earlier.
It all began when a celebrity news outlet with a large following on Instagram and YouTube, Hollywood Unlocked reported that the monarch had been found dead. The same news was reported by the founder of the outlet, Jason Lee.
Hollywood’s Unlocked statement reads:
“Sources close to the Royal kingdom notified us exclusively that #QueenElizabeth has passed away, She was scheduled to attend the wedding of British Vogue editor Edward Enninful, but was found dead. Story developing.”
The story was easy to believe as Buckingham Palace had disclosed that the 95-year-old monarch had contracted COVID 19 on Sunday. In an update on Tuesday, it was also divulged that she continued to suffer from cold-like symptoms, caused by the disease.
The rumour was however quickly dispelled by a chief of staff in the House of Lords, Dayo Okewale as he stated that the news was “false”. Queen Elizabeth II is the queen of the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, and 11 other commonwealth nations. She is the longest-serving monarch in history with her reign extending over 70 years.
