COVID 19: Lagos Declares End to 4th Wave

The Lagos State Government has declared that the 4th wave of COVID 19 pandemic in the state which was triggered by the Omicron variant has come to an end.

The development was confirmed by the Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi while he was speaking with Channels Television.

Anatomic disclosed that the state will now switch its focus to getting more people to take the vaccine and prevent the spread of the disease.

“We are now out of the fourth wave, we don’t know what will happen next. But we want to be prepared and the State Governor has said that we need to hit certain targets this year, so we are going to go back to the drawing board, because there’s a little bit of vaccine hesitancy in Lagos.

In a recent post on his official Twitter account, the commissioner gave an update on testing in the state, revealing that positivity rates of infection had dropped from 29.3% recorded on December 21 to 1.9%.

He also added that bed capacity utilization had dropped to only 2% while the state’s fatality rate is at 0.71%.

The Lagos State Government had on December 7, 2021, announced the beginning of the 4th wave of the COVID 19 pandemic after infection rates spiked, following the emergence of the Omicron variant.
