4th Shot of COVID Vaccine Not Enough for Omicron- New Study

  • A new study has revealed that a fourth dose of the COVID vaccine is not effective against the Omicron variant
  • This comes after Isreal began administering a 4th dose of the vaccine to 270 medical staff in a trial program
  • Despite increasing antibodies, the vaccine was found to only offer partial defense against the virus

An Israeli medical center has carried out research that has revealed that the fourth dose of the coronavirus vaccine only provides limited defense against the Omicron variant of COVID.

Last month, the fourth dose of the coronavirus vaccine began administering the 4th jab to over 270 medical workers with 154 receiving Pfizer shots and 120, Moderna.

The study found that those people had higher antibodies but this did not prevent the spread of the Omicron variant.

Dr. Gili Regev-Yochay, director of the hospital’s infection disease unit said:

“Despite increased antibody levels, the fourth vaccine only offers a partial defense against the virus. The vaccines, which were more effective against previous variants, offer less protection versus omicron.”

Meanwhile, the Israeli government has confirmed that more than 500,000 people have received fourth doses of the COVID vaccine since it began administering them to people over 60 years.

Despite this, the country has suffered an outbreak that has resulted in a record number of cases and hospitalization.

The director of Israel’s Health Ministry however claims that the second booster is worth it because it “returns the level of antibodies to what it was at the beginning of the third booster.”
