YouTube has announced that it will start hiding the dislike count on the videos across its platform.
Earlier this year, the company started experimenting with this initiative in a bid to reduce harassment and dislike attacks on content creators.
Dislike attacks are when a group teams up to increase the number of dislikes on a content creator’s post.
During the experiment, the video social media platform revealed that there was a reduction in such behavior among internet bullies.
The removal of the dislike count however doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to you won’t be able to dislike a video.
The company has disclosed that the button will remain available but the number of dislikes that it gets will be private to the creator.
YouTube expects that by removing the dislike count, it will be able to create an inclusive and safe platform for creators to express themselves.
While many argue that hiding the dislike count will make it difficult to find more useful videos, YouTube says that its research didn’t show any correlation between dislikes and views of a video.

The company won’t be the first social media platform to toy with the idea of hiding user sentiment regarding a post.
A few years ago, Instagram and Facebook experimented with hiding post likes. although eventually the like count wasn’t removed, the gave power to users to hide or display their post likes.
