Covid-19: FG Completes Vaccination of 1.8 Million Nigerians

  • The Federal Government has announced that 1.8 million Nigerians have been vaccinated against COVID-19

  • Lagos, Cross River, Kwara and Ekiti are the only states to have completed their target

  • Those who received the first dose of the vaccine have been advised to return for the second dose

The Federal Government stated that about 1, 794,552 Nigerians have been vaccinated with the first dose of Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines across all the states including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

They also announced that they have started administering the second dose vaccinations of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines.

The National Primary Health Care Development Agency(NPHCDA) made this announcement on Twitter with their official Twitter handle on Saturday, May 15, 2021.

They also announced that Lagos, the FCT and Kano are the states with the highest number of vaccinated people with a total of 279,372, 118,895 and 92,583 respectively.

Also, NPHCDA stated that about 4 states accomplished 100% of their target population. They are Lagos (101%), Kwara (104%), Cross River (100%), Ekiti (100%). So this leads to the estimation of vaccinated Nigerians to be 89.2% of the target population.


They encourage those who received the first dose of the vaccine to check their vaccination card to know when they are to collect the second dose, and to ensure that they collect it within the recommended time which is between 6-12 weeks.

NPHCDA stated that, more than 2 million doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine have been kept for the second vaccination phase, and that its important to administer the vaccine doses within the recommended time, to enjoy all the benefits of the vaccination excercise.

Lastly,
the agency said, “This means that with the current supply, we will fully inoculate roughly two million Nigerians. We are removing an element of risk that is becoming too high.’’
