The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced the approval of a vaccine from China- the Sinopharm COVID vaccine.

Sinopharm Covid Vaccine

This is the first vaccine that is developed by a non-western country that gets the organization’s backing.

Before this, WHO had only approved Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson.

The Sinopharm vaccine has an efficacy of 79% against COVID 19.

Poorer countries in Africa, America, and Asia have also approved the vaccine for emergency use.

WHO claims that the newly released vaccine can help increase vaccine access and limit the spread of coronavirus.

It is recommended that the vaccine be administered to those above the ages of 18.

WHO is also currently assessing the Russian developed vaccine, Sputnik and it may be approved in the coming days.
