Twitter is reportedly testing out a feature that will make it easier for users to send direct messages from the timeline.
The company’s new direct messages will allow other users to send you a message directly from your tweet.
“For when you want to reply directly to a Tweet’s author, we’re making it easier to DM them from your timeline to start a conversation,”
The company claims that the feature will make it easier to start a conversation but some users are worried about the potential downside of this new tool.
Some Twitter users have lamented that the new feature may leave people vulnerable to harassment and bullying.
One of those in support of this was Eliza Orlins, a public defender in New York City.

Eliza claimed that having an extra step of going to a user’s DM to send a DM cuts back on harassment and unsolicited DMs.
She ended her tweet by urging the social media giant to include a safety feature to not allow the direct DM feature in their tweets.
