Transfer Window Deadline – The Biggest Summer Transfers of 2021

This might not have been the busiest transfer window in history, but it would probably go down as one of the most eventful in history. The summer transfer window has closed across Europe’s major leagues. We are bringing you some of the biggest transfers that have happened during this summer. You may tell us which were your biggest transfers of the summer transfer window 2021.

Lionel Messi from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain (Free transfer)

This was the loudest reminder that a big transfer does not have to be for a hefty fee. One of the contenders in the GOAT argument made a drastic move away from his boyhood club to big money spenders, PSG. With La Liga’s fingers wrapped around Barcelona’s neck for their ridiculous wage bill, the football club had to let Messi go. Unfortunately, Messi had dillydallied signing a new contract since he wanted a move out of the club last summer. Landing Messi for free is probably the most ridiculous deal in football history. However, the player is past 34 years which might affect his quality soon enough.

Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus to Manchester United (15 million Euros)

In an even more shocking fashion, CR7 reunited with his old club, Manchester United. While it appeared he would be joining their city rivals, Manchester City, Ronaldo made a u-turn to sell for 15 million Euros. Some have attributed this to some conversations he had with some former players.

Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United (85 million Euros)

Manchester United was finally able to catch up with Jadon Sancho after chasing him for a couple of years. Sancho joined Dortmund from Manchester City’s youth team in 2017. The youngster has been the center of attraction in the Bundesliga and is definitely one of the best younger players in the game currently.

Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan to Chelsea (115 million Euros)

Lukaku made a move from Inter Milan to his old club, Chelsea, after a successful run in the Serie A, where he won the league with an impressive goal tally. The former Chelsea reject rejoins the team after having difficulty finding a striker to complete the team for a couple of years with Werner under-performing. Chelsea has shipped Tammy Abraham to AS Roma, leaving fewer options for the position. Lukaku’s price tag might be on the high side, but it also explains how desperate the European Champions were as they could not secure the services of Erling Haaland.

Antoine Griezmann from Barcelona to Atletico Madrid (Loan Deal)

After finding the back of the goalpost just 22 times in 74 games, Griezmann has had a challenging time settling into the Barcelona team. Atletico have secured his services on a season-long loan with a mandatory purchase option of 40 million Euros. He reunites with his old club, where he was the celebrated star boy before his move a couple of years ago. Hopeful, this would be some opportunity for him to prove his status as a top-class player and regain his confidence. It should not be so difficult to deliver under the management of Diego Simeone.

Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid to Paris Saint-Germain (Free Transfer)

Sergio Ramos will be reuniting with an age-long rival at PSG, Messi, having played on opposite sides for over a decade. Sergio Ramos joined PSG on a free transfer as his contract expired at the Santiago Bernabeu. The stellar defender enjoyed an amazing career at Real Madrid, establishing himself as one of the best to ever play the game.

David Alaba from Bayern Munich to Real Madrid (Free Transfer)

Having lost Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos to Manchester United and PSG, respectively, David Alaba will be beefing up the backline of the Real Madrid team. The 29-year-old Austrian arrives for free and appears to be a very decent deal considering his proven quality while playing at Bayern.

Honorable mentions for top transfers that took place this summer window include:

Jack Grealish from Aston Villa to Manchester City (100 million Euros)
Raphael Varane from Real Madrid to Manchester United (41 million Euros)
Sergio Aguero from Manchester City to Barcelona (Free Transfer)
Georginio Wijnaldum from Liverpool to PSG (Free Transfer)
David Alaba from Bayern Munich to Real Madrid (Free Transfer)
Achraf Hakimi from Inter Milan to PSG (70 million Euros)
Dayot Upamecano from RB Leizig to Bayern Munich (42.5 million Euros).

Asides from PSG, which club did really well in this transfer window?
