-This is the story of how the footballer has been unconscious for 39 years
Life is just a pot of beans. It can go from 0 to 100 and from 100 to 0 in just a couple of seconds. The latter was the case for a French footballer, Jean-Pierre Adams.

Adams was a defender for the French national team until an unfortunate incident happened in 1982 that stopped him from living and also didn’t kill him.
History
Born on March 10, 1948, Adam’s was a strong defender who played for many clubs in Europe, including Paris Saint-Germain. The defender also played 22 games for the French national team. Adams was married to Bernadette with 2 kids.
Incident
The footballer wasn’t expecting never to walk out when he went for routine surgery for a knee injury in a Lyon hospital on March 17, 1982.
On this day, the hospital staff were on strike but he and the doctor decided to go on with the surgery nevertheless.
During the surgery, Adams was left to be supervised by a trainee and an anesthetist who had 7 other patients to look after.
During the operation, Jean-Pierre Adams wasn’t properly intubated and a tube blocked the supply of oxygen to his lungs. This denied his brain of oxygen and he suffered a cardiac arrest.
When the footballer’s wife, Bernadette got there, she found tubes all around and her husband was unconscious.
The aftermath of the surgery
Following the accident, Bernadette stayed in the hospital with her husband for 5 days but he didn’t wake up.
After 15 months in the hospital, she was advised to move him to an elderly home but she instead moved him to their home to tend to his needs.
Bernadette wakes up each morning and bathes her husband, shaves him, and delivers his food(all of which must be blended).

39 years after
Jean-Pierre Adams is still unable to move or do anything else by himself.

His wife won a lawsuit against the hospital and that provides her the money required for his care.
Adams has 3 grandchildren from his 2 children but he has never seen them or spoken to them.
Bernadette was advised to consider euthanasia (medical termination of life) but she refused, stating that she has hope of her husband being revived one day.
