Throwback: US Music Stars Jay Z and Beyonce Visit Ilorin Nigeria

• The pictures show the music stars with then governor of Kwara State Bukola Saraki as Jay z wore a turban

• The American rapper also attended the commissioning of a road in Ilorin that was named after him

Although a lot of people may not believe it, American music stars Jay Z and Beyonce once visited Nigeria and they came to one of the most unlikely locations in the country- Ilorin.

When you think about foreign music stars making a trip to Nigeria, the common destinations that come to your head are Lagos and Abuja.

This is why so many people were shocked to discover that the music power couple visited Kwara state in 2006.

Photos that recently surfaced online showed both stars in the company of the former governor of Kwara State, Bukola Saraki.

Saraki who claims to be a big fan stated that he wanted the artists to see the efforts being made by the state to provide clean water for its residents.

In addition to that, a road was named after Jay Z in Ilorin and the U.S rapper was present at the commissioning.

While in Ilorin, a turbaned Jay Z was also conferred with a chieftaincy title “Serikin Waka” by the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambari.
