Federal Government has promised to lift Nigeria’s Twitter ban in “a few days”
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed disclosed this while answering questions from journalists on Wednesday
The minister claimed that discussions with the social media giant have been productive
The federal government has assured Nigerians that its suspension of microblogging platform Twitter will be lifted soon.
The Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed disclosed this when he addressed state house correspondents in Abuja on Wednesday.
The minister stated discussions between the government and the social media company are progressive and at decisive stages.
“I think even Twitter itself two days ago gave what I will call a progress report on our talks with them, and I think if I want to quote them rightly it has been productive and quite respectful.”
“That I can assure you that it is by far in other words, if the operation has been suspended for about 100 days now, I can tell that we’re just actually talking about a few, just a few more days now,”
It’s been over 100 days since Nigeria suspended the use of the social media platform in the country.
This has forced many to find alternative means to access the microblogging platform including the use of VPN.
A report by Netblocks has revealed that the country’s economy has suffered greatly in that time losing more than $360 million as a result of the Twitter ban.
