The president encouraged the party to remain united and support the party’s candidate in the upcoming 2023 presidential election.

This was revealed in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by the Presidency through the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu.

The statement reads:

“Having emerged victorious he has our full and unwavering support. Now our party must unite behind our candidate to achieve victory at the 2023 elections so that our government will continue to secure our communities, grow our economy and continue the fight against corruption.”

In addition, the president stated that he strongly believes that the former Lagos State Governor, Tinubu is the right candidate to help the party clinch the presidential seat come 2023.

He also thanked the over 2,000 delegates that stormed Eagle square, Abuja for the primaries. He appreciated their effort stating that they made the best decision that led to the emergence of Tinubu as the party’s flagbearer.

Many Nigerians earlier thought that President Buhari was against Tinubu becoming the party’s flagbearer, especially after the party chairman Abdulahi Adamu had earlier on Monday stated that the president has adopted Senate President Ahmad Lawan as the consensus candidate.

It finally turned out that Lawan finished 4th in the primary election behind Tinubu, Rotimi Amaechi, and Vice President Yemi Osibanjo.
