Bola Ahmed Tinubu Wins APC’s Presidential Primary Election 

  • Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) wins APC presidential primary election with 1,299 votes. 
  • His closest rivals, former minister Rotimi Amaechi and Vice President Professor Yemi Osibanjo were only able to gather 316 and 235 votes respectively.
  • Tinubu’s victory comes after eight aspirants had earlier stepped down, encouraging their supporters to vote for Tinubu.

Former Lagos state governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been declared the winner of the just concluded APC presidential primary election.

The Jagaban of Lagos state won the election with a very wide margin, scoring a total of 1,299 votes while his major opponents; Former minister Rotimi Amaechi and Vice President Professor Yemi Osibanjo were only able to gather 316 and 235 votes respectively.

Before voting began yesterday, nine aspirants stepped down, eight of whom encouraged their supporters to vote for Tinubu while one U.S.-based aspirant Pastor Felix Nicholas encouraged his supporters to vote for Professor Osibanjo. 

Those who asked their supporters to vote for Tinubu are; Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa, Robert Boroffice, Ken Nnamani, Ibikunle Amosun, Dimeji Bankole, Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, and Godswill Akpabio and Mrs. Uju Ken-Ohanenye.

  • Bola Ahmed Tinubu – 1299
  • Rotimi Amaechi – 316
  • Yemi Osinbajo – 235
  • Ahmed Lawan – 152
  • Yahaya Bello – 47
  • Dave Umahi – 28
  • Prof Ben Ayade – 37

During the convention, the immediate past Minister of State for Education and also a presidential aspirant was notably absent.

Tinubu will now be a major contestant for the February 25th election next year. He will be going up against fellow major contenders; Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

Speaking before the election, Abdulahi Adamu, the APC party Chairman said “The fate of the party depends on what we do here, we cannot go into the general election next year without putting our house together.”
