Owo Massacre: Osinbajo Pays Condolence Visit to Ondo

  • Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, paid a condolence visit to Owo, Ondo state on Monday over the Owo massacre that happened on Sunday.

Nigeria’s vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, visited Owo, Ondo state on Monday to offer his condolences. The VP’s visit was made to sympathize with the people of the state following a heinous attack at the St Francis Catholic Church on Sunday.


Osinbajo’s visit was confirmed in a tweet by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande. Akande also revealed that the VP will relay President Buhari’s message to the people during the visit.

 “The VP heads out to Owo, (Ondo State this morning) where worshippers were heinously attacked yesterday resulting in many casualties.

“He will deliver the President’s condolences and message in person.”

More than 50 people, children and adults included, were killed in the Owo massacre on Sunday afternoon. The St Francis Catholic Church was attacked by gunmen, suspected to be Fulani herdsmen. The attacks fired sporadically at people in the church, killing many and injuring others in the process. Reports also claim that explosives were detonated in the church building by the attackers.

Before this formal visit, Osinbajo had expressed his sadness at the incident on his Twitter account.  Yemi Osinbajo is one of several APC candidates vying for the party’s presidential ticket for 2023.
