Staff of the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC have embarked on strike.
Millions of Nigerians who have besieged NIMC offices across the country have been left unattended
The strike action was signed by the President of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, NIMC branch
Nigerians have been left stranded at various NIMC offices across the nation’s the staff of the commission have embarked on a strike.
The industrial action notice was signed by the Lucky Michael, President of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, NIMC branch, as well as its Secretary, Odia Victor.
According to the statement, following the just concluded congress of the association, staff from grade 12 level and below in the national and states offices to do nothing at their respective place of duty.
The order commenced on Thursday, January 7, 2021 and it covers all NIMC staff from the aforementioned grade level.
Consequently, millions of Nigerians trying to synchronize their SIM with their National Identity Number would be affected by the action.
According to a association’s communiqué, their members are being exposed to COVID-19 due to the large crowd of people topping daily to best the NIN registration deadline.
Unfortunately, the association’s leadership disclosed that the government have refused to provide protective equipment for their staff, hence the need to down tools.
In addition, the association is also dissatisfied with government’s funding and welfare towards NIMC staff as well irregularities in promotion
