Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has vowed that this administration will not rest until social media is regulated.

The minister made this promise while speaking to newsmen in Washington US on Wednesday.

Mr Mohammed appeared to be triggered by news that he snuck to the US to meet Twitter executives to discuss the ban.

Lai Mohammed denied the reports, stating that his visit to the US was to meet international media organisations and discuss v
Buhari’s achievements against terrorism and banditry.

Social media

The minister disclosed that social media is being used as a platform to spread fake news which could put the nation in jeopardy.

“When you talk about fake news and its danger, we need to take it seriously and I am happy that the entire world is now seeing what we saw more than two years ago.”

“I can assure you that we will not rest until we regulate the social media, otherwise, nobody will survive it, ”.

Lai Mohammed also added that Twitter was not suspended because the platform authorities deleted Buhari’ tweets.

He revealed that the ban on Twitter was a result of the platform being used to carry out activities that undermined the country’s existence.
