The Federal Government has announced its plans to completely shut down the third mainland bridge for 3 days, starting from midnight today.

The closure of the bridge will allow contractors to perform delicate expansions and repairs on the bridge.

This information was disclosed by the Federal Controller of Works Lagos, Mr. Olukayode Popoola, on Wednesday, January 27, 2021.

Mr. Popoola announced that construction had gotten to the stage where they were required to cast concrete to critical areas of the bridge.

He also added that frequent movement of vehicles on the bridge was going to result in vibrations, which are detrimental to the project.

Mr. Popoola also stated that closing the bridge for 3 days will provide enough time for the concrete to set and result in durability. Make person no fall down.

He appealed to Lagosians to understand that this decision was going to prove to be beneficial in the long term.

This is not the first closure of the third mainland bridge in recent times. In July, the bridge was partially shut down for 6 months for a series of repairs.

The project had to e extended for an additional year due to the effect of the #endsars protest in October.

Some alternative routes for the major bridge include are Iddo inwards Carter Bridge Market Road Herbert Macaulay Road and Herbert Macaulay Road.
