FG Declares 2-day Public Holiday to Celebrate Easter

  • The federal government has declared a 2-day public holiday to mark this year’s Easter celebration
  • The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola disclosed that Friday and April 15, and Monday, April 18, will be public holidays
  • The minister called on Nigerians to pray for an end to security challenges that have bedeviled various parts of the country

The federal government has disclosed that a 2-day public holiday has been declared to mark the coming Easter celebrations.

The public holiday was confirmed in a statement which was issued by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Interior, Dr. Shuaib Belgore on behalf of Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, on Tuesday.

The statement revealed that Friday, (Good Friday) April 15, and Monday, (Easter Monday) April 18, 2022, will be the days set aside for the celebration.

Belgore encouraged Christians to exhibit Christ-like attributes such as sacrifice, togetherness, forgiveness, kindness, love, peace, and patience.

Meanwhile, Aregbesola called on Christians and Nigerians as a whole to seize the opportunity to pray for an end to all security challenges that have bedeviled the country.

A part of the statement reads:

“Security is everybody’s business. I, therefore, urge Nigerians and foreigners resident in our country to display a high sense of citizenship and public-spiritedness at this critical time in the history of our country…

Aregbesola ended the statement by wishing Nigerians in the country and those in the diaspora a happy and peaceful Easter celebration
