If it wasn’t already evident, insecurity in Nigeria is at an all-time high. Reports emerged yesterday that a Kaduna-bound train was invaded by bandits after they managed to blow up the rail tracks that the train was about to pass.

Several injuries were confirmed in the tragic incident and the first death from the attack has also been recorded. Dr. Chinelo Megafu was aboard the train when it was attacked and the incident marked the end of her promising future.

At 9:43 pm on Monday, Chinelo made a post on Twitter claiming that she had been shot by the terrorists that attacked the train. Fast forward to the next morning and the young doctor was confirmed dead.

In a viral photo that can be seen on social media, Chinelo was seen in a pool of her blood as the incident sparked outrage on social media.

According to her friends, Chinelo Megafu was formerly staff at the St Gerald’s hospital in Kaduna but resigned in February as she had plans of relocating abroad. As a Dental Surgeon that graduated from the University of Port Harcourt, her dreams were brought to an abrupt end most tragically.

A Director of the National Board for Technical Education, Abdu Isa Kofar has also been reported among the casualties of the attack. A family source confirmed his death on Tuesday, adding that plans are ongoing for his burial. At the moment, the total death toll of the train attack remains unknown.
