Armed bandits attacked a community in Gurmana ward in Shiroro local government area of Niger state on Saturday evening.
Reports indicate that over 15 people died by drowning in a river while trying to escape.
According to an undisclosed source for The nation, people tried to escape from the bandits by running into River Kaduna.
The bandits reportedly staged the attack with high-class weapons as they shot randomly as there approached the community.
The same bandits were responsible for attacking a school and abducting some students.
The government is currently negotiating to secure the release of the abducted boys.
Also, Northern youths have called on the governor of Niger state Sani Bello to manage the insecurity in the state.
Top political figure, Tinubu has also called on the government to address insecurity to prevent a crisis in the country.
