Akeredolu Wins Ondo Election (FULL DETAILS)

Yesterday, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State was handed another tenure as the Executive Governor of the state till 2024.

 With 292,830 votes, standout victories in 15 of the 18 local councils of the state and scoring 25 per cent of the votes in all councils, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka, the vice chancellor of the University of lbadan, UI, the Chief Returning Officer for the Ondo 2020 Governorship election returned the incumbent governor as the winner of the poll.

Akeredolu who was the flag bearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, defeated Mr. Eyitayo Jegede his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, opponent with 97,039 votes. Jegede polled 195,791 votes in the election.

Governor Akeredolu’s estranged deputy, Hon Agboola Ajayi, who contested on the platform of Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, was the first runner up with 69,127 votes. He trailed his principal with 223,703 votes.

Collectively, the 16 candidates cleared by INEC for the election got 279,915 and they are as follows: Martin Olateru- Olagbegi, ADP (3,464); Fasua Oyeleye, SDP (3,053); Adelegan Oluwaseyi, ADC (2,440); Okunade Taiwo, LP (1,977); Adeleye Peter, AAC (814); Babatunde Alli, PRP (669); Adesanya Olaoluwa, APP (527); Funmilayo Ataunoko, NRM (468); Ojon Dotun, YPP (398); Aminu Olarenwaju, APM (309); Rotimi Akindejoye, Accord (292); Olowoloba Dele, APGA (271); Ojajuni Eniola, NNPP (222); and Joshua Adewole, AA (93).

Akeredolu who was elated when his victory was announced thanked the Ondo people for reaffirming their beluef in his Administration and going all out to ensure his victory in the poll. The governor also extended a hand of fellowship to his opponents and beckon on them to join him in the development and progress of the state.

We reported yesterday that after several days of protest, the IGP has ban SARS nationwide and that the men would be redeployed immediately.
