9 Steps to become a Successful Music Artiste in Nigeria
What people really want is complicated, you can never really tell. That is why it is very important to be original and just be you. Hmmmmm, but does being you really work in the Nigerian Music scene? I don’t mean you having to imitate what others are doing; I am trying to talk about trend. In my 9 steps to become a successful music artiste in Nigeria, I will tell you what to do about trends.
I have known a lot of good artist who have beautiful songs, I mean, those kind of songs that just send chills down your spine but they are not in the spot light. Why? Could they be doing something wrong?
With the internet, I believe becoming a celebrity became a lot easier. You need to know the right thing to do, that’s why I have revealed a lot in my 9 steps to become a successful music artiste in Nigeria.
Are you still wondering why a song with good content and soul will not thrive compared to a song with just noise and beats?
Read why below;
1. Proper Branding/packaging
Packaging is very key, how well you package is how well you sell. Your name, pictures, graphics, your social media handles should sync. Get your image handled by pros, because if you look like a pro, your listeners are going to take you as one. If you really want to stand out, you have to do it right. Don’t ever play with your image, come up with something and stick to it.
You always need a good promotional body to portray your talent, you can’t do it all by yourself.
2. Quality Is important
When you don’t put some quality into what you do, nobody takes your work seriously. You know the phrase; anything worth doing is worth doing well? That’s what you must do with your music. Your rhymes should make sense, your mixing and mastering should also sound very professional. You can’t just walk up to anybody to do your audio; you have to be sure of the sound they produce. If your stuff sounds well-coordinated, people are likely to listen to you and take you seriously.

3. In Your Face
Being in the news is very important; it is the only thing that keeps your brand alive. And you can never say any publicity is too much. Some people prefer to keep a good image, but na who good image eep. Let me tell you the koko, bad publicity works more than good publicity. All these gossips you are seeing ‘upandan’ is for that very purpose. Gossip sells because everybody likes it. Imagine 2baba’s producer sleeping with his wife, every blogger wants to carry it.
4. Money Speaks
If you have cash, spend it. Pay good publicists, popular DJs, bloggers, OAPs, social media promoters else you are on your own. If you take this people for granted, your career is over. You need them like you need blood. If they love you, the public will hear you.
5. Keep In Shape
This is very important. You need to be in form, this is why it is called showbiz. You might have the talent but your body is a no no. Haven’t you seen most times in music talent shows where they are looking for talent and star quality? Star quality is your physical appearance mehn. Now I’m not discriminating but you have a mass of people to please. I might be considerate but Nigerians? Hmmmmm, you better bring it hot like Tiwa Savage or the kukere master.
6. Flaunt Your Body
The music scene is a crazy place, so you wanna find out what works for you. Our people like alluring performances. If you wanna show some skin, show some skin, it doesn’t hurt anyone, it’s entirely up to you though. But your body must be banging if you must do that. See, girls love Iyanya for that hot body, even me too mehn…wish I could touch it. Be posh about it though.
7. Get a slogan
Guy! Form your own phrase ooo. You see me use koko above, no be my word ooo, na Dbang own, na olamide bring who you epp. The list is endless. When 2baba show, you know say nothing de happen.
8. Feature a Well-Known Artiste
Standing side by side with someone that is already known, gives you good credibility. People are going to be like, “so he’s rolling with the big boys already.” Just make sure they don’t over shine you and people begin to think they own the song. Be confident about yourself and own the song if it’s yours. This will certainly bring you out, because his fans will see you.
9. Follow The Trend Then Give It A Twist
You can sing all you want but if you don’t have anything that Nigerians are looking for, they might not listen to you or buy your album. Your hit track should be the trend in Naija. For some time now, it’s been dance hall. Get a good beat, do your dance hall with a new twist, people will love it. They will feel it like what they know but even better. Don’t ever forget this.
