HEADIES MEETS CRITICISM
Prior to the 2016 Headies awards slated to hold today the 22nd of December 2016, a few Nigerian artistes have been aggravated by the selections made on certain categories and they embraced the Headies Awards with much criticism.
A month ago, Tekno took to his instagram page pouring his heart out against the organizers for daring to put him on the “Next Rated” category alongside, Mr Eazi, Ycee, Aramide and Humblesmith. He said “Next rated after how many years! Let’s be honest pls”.
It would be worthy of note that Nigerian music sensation, Tekno, has been disqualified from the highly coveted “Next Rated” category.
PRESS RELEASE BY ORGANIZERS
The organizers have had to explain the basis on which each artiste were selected.
CRITICISM
Revered video producer, Clarence Peters, had also criticized the awards.
In an Instagram post made about a month, Clarence Peters said “In a year that these men gave us some of the most amazing visual interpretations mainly Darey’s “Pray for me” and Kiss Daniel’s “Jombo” by @ajefilmswork works, respectfully, it breaks my heart that The Headies don’t deem it fit to recognize their outstanding work.
“To my brothers: from Dir Q, to @adasacookeyto Frizzle&Bizzle, from Gambit to LA, from Matt Max to Avalon to TOSIN IGHO, SESAN to MOE to MEJI etc …. We know what we put in.
“Awards don’t define us, WE DEFINE POPULAR CULTURE not just in Nigeria, but across the continent, so I salute you all”.
Anyways Tekno’s disqualification leaves Aramide, Humblesmith, Mr Eazi and Ycee as contenders in that category. This is coming on the heels of Tekno not participating in the pre-award activities of the Headies Awards.
The award night will be hosted by Falz and Etomi Adesua. More news will be given after the events.
