
The national leader of All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has donated the sum of $30,000 (N11.4 million) towards the ferrying of the corpse of actress, Moji Olaiya from Canada to Nigeria, and other expenses. A cry for help was taken to Tinubu at the weekend that they wanted her buried in Nigeria, and he entertained their request on Monday. Moji’s corpse is being prepared for freight to Nigeria as one of her siblings, Femi Olaiya arrived Canada from his London base in the night of Saturday, May 20. Sources said Asiwaju stepped in after Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State disappointed the family despite promises. He was approached on Sunday, met with the family on Monday, along with Nollywood friends of Moji.
A source close to the Bourdillon home of the national leader of the All Progressives Congress made the revelation to Encomium saying: “I may be wrong, Asiwaju who promised the committee $40k on Saturday changed it to $30k by Monday. Perhaps he had been fed Gov Ayo Fayose had helped. Meanwhile the committee had thought they will use the excess to pay Adun’s school fees and empower the grandmum who will take up the upkeep of the 2 months old the deceased left behind.

“Moji’s daughter, Adunola was crying when they met Tinubu. The Jagaban was moved by the emotions and helped with all the money needed”, the source added.

Yomi Fabiyi, secretary of Theatre Arts and Movie Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) confirmed Asiwaju Tinubu’s assistance in a statement: “The Committee after due deliberation consulted our father and a National Grand Patron of our association (TAMPAN) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the 21st May, 2017 to inform him of the demise of our colleague Moji Olaiya and that our humble unanimous decision is to have her body back, then given befitting burial and have her 2 months old daughter re-united with the family. On Monday 22nd May, 2017, the Committee members, Adunola (Eldest daughter of Late Moji Olaiya) and two elder brothers of Late Moji Olaiya met with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and he expressed his sympathy directly and gave adequate support that will cover the entire air-freight.
“On behalf of the family, colleagues and friends we say a big thank you to the National Leader for his fatherly and timely intervention. Further support or assistance from other sources if received will be adequately acknowledged. For now, we are grateful to Asiwaju and his family. The family and committee will however take it from there. Moreso, every other information relating the arrival and burial plans will be released shortly.”

Late Olaiya had just welcomed her baby girl in March 2017 before she died of cardiac arrest at a hospital in Canada on Wednesday night. The death of the filmmaker, who rose to limelight in Wale Adenuga’s Super Story TV Series, may have been in connection with complications that arose from her child birth in March.
