US President, Donald Trump has been permanently suspended from Twitter
The decision to shut down Trump’s account was following his inciting comments that bolster the attack on Capitol Hill on Wednesday.
According to police, the riot at the US Capitol has lead to the death if at least five people and the US president had a role to play in it
After several years of extensively using Twitter to run the government, attack opponents and show love to his base, President Donald Trump was permanently banned from the platform on Friday, 8 January.
With less than 14 days before the inauguration, of President-elect Joe Biden, the social media company opted to all together blacklist and remove the commander in chief after protesters overtook the Capitol on Wednesday.
The tech company released a blog post about the permanent suspension, saying the decision was taken to reduce the risk of further incitement of violence. They further explained that given the context of events this week that led to the invasion at the Capitol, additional violation of the platform’s policy would result in a ban, hence the president was permanently suspended from using the platform.
Twitter did not however state whether the account would be restored anytime win the future.
Meanwhile, we reported earlier that the Nigerian government has directed all telecommunication operators to deregister all SIM cards that are not synchronized with the National Identity Number (NIN) by December 30th 2020.
