The Austrian surgeon has been fine for amputating the wrong leg of the patient during an operation.
The medical professional removed the patient’s right leg instead of the left leg that ought to be removed and the tragic mistake was not discovered until 2 days after.
On Wednesday, December 1, a court in Linz, Austria found the 43-year-old surgeon guilty of negligence and fined her €2,700.
The patient died before the events of the court, so his widow was offered €5,000 in damages by the court.
The terrible mistake was only identified two days after the surgery during a routine bandage change and he was told that the other leg was still going to be amputated.
The hospital where the incident happened disclosed that the surgery happened as a result of negligence and termed it an unfortunate circumstance.

During the hearing, the surgeon blamed an error in the chain of command in the operating theater for the mistake.
When she was asked why the wrong leg was marked, she couldn’t provide answers.
