There was an uprising in Guinea’s capital city Conakry on Sunday as the president of the country Alpha Conde was overthrown and arrested.
The soldiers which were led by Colonel Mamady Doumbouy stated that they had dissolved the nation’s constitution.
According to Reuters, there was a battle at the presidential palace on Sunday morning as an elite national army unit went up against the president.
Videos shared on social media showed president Alpha Conde surrounded by men of the army after the capture.
Last year, 83-year-old Conde contested for a third term and won after effecting changes to the Constitution that would allow him to compete.
After the coup, Doumbouya appeared on television stating that he and his supports plan to form a transitional government in the country.

The Nigerian Government and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have condemned the unexpected event that happened in Guinea.
Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama and Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana, the ECOWAS Chairman released statements to slam the coup and demanded the release of the president.
