The Catalan club’s chief executive, Ferran Reverter, has resigned just seven months after taking up the role
Barcelona’s chief executive officer, Ferran Reverter has resigned from his role just as the club prepares to announce a €280m (£236m) sponsorship deal with Spotify.
The agreement which is spread over 3 years will cover sponsorship for the men’s and women’s teams as they carry the company’s logo on their shirts.
The deal will also make the music streaming platform become the first holder of the rights to the title rights of the Camp Nou stadium.
The deal will come into play from the end of the 2021/2022 season when Barcelona’s deals with primary sponsor, Rakuten, and secondary sponsor, Beko, end.
While the Rakuten deal was worth€55m a season, the club is yet to officially reveal the value of its deal with Spotify.

Although the club claims that Reverter resigned for “personal family reasons”, a report from the Catalan radio show Què T’hi Jugues stated that disagreement regarding the deal was the reason for his resignation.
Reverter had been responsible for the negotiation of sponsorship deals but he met opposition from the club’s board when he made propositions for a deal with a cryptocurrency company.
