Uber to Integrate Bitcoin Payment on App

Uber Technologies Inc. is set to join Microsoft and other top companies by accepting Bitcoin as a payment option on its app.

The CEO of the company Dara Khosrowhahi appeared in an interview with Bloomberg Markets’ on Friday, where he explained that the tech and mobility company is bound to accept cryptocurrencies “at some point”.
He revealed stated that the company has been discussing cryptocurrencies “all the time” and noted that the digital assets have become very valuable.

Khosrowhahi revealed that two downsides of the flagship cryptocurrency use are that is expensive as a medium of exchange and mining is not great for the environment.

“As the exchange mechanism becomes less expensive, becomes more environmentally friendly, I think you will see us lean into crypto a little bit more.”

Other rumors have circulated in the past about the possibility of Uber accepting cryptocurrencies due to Khosrowshahi being a Bitcoin advocate, the company has never publicly acknowledged it.

If the mobility company eventually decides to go ahead with its plan, it will join an exclusive list of companies such as Microsoft, Paypal, and Starbucks, which currently accept cryptocurrency as payment.
