Former Manchester United player Anderson Luís de Abreu Oliveira has been accused of laundering £4.7million through cryptocurrencies.

The 33-year-old footballer has been named among 8 people who are being investigated for Bitcoin fraud by a state prosecutor in Brazil.

The group reportedly tried to divert 35 million Brazilian reals ($6.4m) from the state stocks using cryptocurrency.

The footballer is now being investigated for crimes including theft, money laundering, and belonging to a criminal organisation.

Reports have revealed that the investigation has been on for over a year when a search warrant was issued for Anderson’s apartment.

Although Anderson admitted to investing in cryptocurrency and selling bitcoins to one of the companies involved, he denied being aware that the money came from illegal sources.

The former Manchester United player’s lawyer has promised to prove the player’s innocence in the coming months.
