Tesla CEO Elon Musk is no longer the richest person in the world after Tesla Inc. shares slid 8.6% on Monday.
This is Tesla’s biggest decline since September and it has caused Musk to lose $15.2 billion from his net worth.
This decline was partly fueled by a comment that Musk made on Twitter on Saturday.
The Tesla CEO replied to a post saying that the price of Bitcoin and Ethereum seem high.
This is following the news that Tesla invested $1.5 billion in Bitcoin.
The cryptocurrency which had increased by over 400% in the past year dropped by over 15% in 24 hours.
The drop has been attributed to skepticism by retail investors about its rally.
Musk has now dropped from the top of Bloomberg’s Billionaire Index, with his net worth slipping down to $183.4 billion from $210 billion.
Jeff Bezos is now the richest man in the world despite losing $3.7 billion to drop to $186.3 billion.
