Chery initially transferred 1000 Canadian dollars then transferred another $800 before realizing that it was a scam
Fabienne Chery is one of many people who had seen the popularity of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies grow and she wanted to get involved as well.
Cherry saw a video posted by her friend on Instagram, promoting a cryptocurrency investment and she messaged them immediately.
The friend directed her to another account on Instagram “nikkilove333”, which was an expert that will teach her how to buy, sell and share Bitcoin.
“nikkilove333” told Chery about the cryptocurrency opportunity and convinced her to send the money to invest.
Little did she know that she was speaking to a hacker who had gained access to her friend’s account and was using it to defraud others in a Bitcoin scam.
The hackers first asked for $1,000 and when she sent it, they demanded more since it was Canadian dollars and she had to send the difference in USD.
Chery sent an additional $800 before she realized that it was a scam.
The hacker had also managed to break into her Instagram account and was already promoting the same bitcoin scam video to lure other victims.
Although Chery was eventually able to recover her account, she bid goodbye to her money.
