As the fight against COVID-19 continues, Nigeria will be employing the use of technology to make vaccine delivery more efficient.
2 states in the country have signed a deal with Zipline International Inc. to use drones in the distribution of COVID vaccines.

Vaccine delivery has been difficult due to bad roads and insecurity in many rural areas of Nigeria.
Zipline, a San Francisco-based company is completing the construction of distribution centres in Nigeria.

The company will also seek the regulator’s approval to operate in the two states- Cross River and Kaduna.
Daniel Marfo, a senior vice president at Zipline Africa revealed that moving medical products has become very difficult due to insecurity in the country.

Nigeria has been able to use only 50% of the 4 million AstraZeneca vaccines which were received in March.
The company is some way behind its target of vaccinating 70% of its 200 million population.

President Buhari’s administration plans to secure 30 million more doses of the vaccine through African Vaccine Acquisition Trust.
