COVID 19: WHO Donates Important Items To Help Nigeria in the War Against Pandemic

  • The World Health Organisation (WHO) as donated several items to Nigeria to show support to the country in the war against COVID 19 third wave
  • 26 ventilators and 3560 fingertip oxygen pulse oximeters were handed over to the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire on the 5th of August
  • Nigeria has been challenged in the past few weeks due to rising cases of the virus. At the moment, there are over 9,000 active cases in the country

World Health Organization (WHO) has provided Nigeria with 26 ventilators and 3560 fingertip oxygen pulse oximeters to aid the country’s war against COVID 19.

The WHO Country Representative (WR), Dr Walter Kazadi delivered the items to Nigeria’s health minister Dr Osagie Ehanire on Thursday in Abuja.

The WHO representative stated that the organisation hoped that the items will help the country in response to a third wave of the pandemic.

“It is against this backdrop we wish to demonstrate our continued support of the Federal Ministry of Health’s efforts of in further strengthening the country’s capacity in case management. This is in addition our ongoing support across all pillars of the country’s COVID-19 response to at Federal and State level”.

Dr Ehanire who received the items expressed gratitude to WHO for their support against COVID 19 since the start of the pandemic.

The donations come at a critical time when the country’s COVID cases keep rising sharply.

Nigeria has recorded over 175,264 since the index case in 2020 and the survival rate from the virus is 94%.

Following the last update of 565 new cases, the country has 9,033 active cases across 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Ventilators are used to support breathing by pumping air into the lungs while Oximeters measure how well oxygen binds with the red blood cells.
